Otangarei Knights – Giant Killers – RLN MultiKai Cooker Premiership Winners

The Otangarei Knights won their first Premiership since 1983, when they defeated the Hikurangi Stags in a climatic 28 – 26 final minute thriller, in front of a massive crowd of 2500 people at Toll Stadium on Saturday the 9th August. The Knights, who finished 4th on the Premiership ladder, have won three thrillers in a row defeating the Portland Panthers 24 – 16 in the Minor Semi Finals, then toppling Minor Premiers the Takahiwai Warriors 28 – 22, in the major semi final, then they did the unthinkable and defeated the Stags to earn the title of RLN MultiKai Cooker Premiership winners as well as Giant Killers.

Northern Swords to host Auckland at Bluegoose – Saturday 6th September

The Swords have a BYE in the National Competition on September the 6th – but to continue with their build up for they have a game against an Auckland U20’s Team. This game will provide a valuable build up to their match the following week when they travel to Wanganui to plan the Mid Central Vipers (the team the Swords defeated in 2013). The Swords 17s will also be hosting an Auckland U18s team which will be a big challenge for Benson Selwyns troops.

RLN Grand Finals – 13s – Toll Stadium – Sunday 31st August

This should be a cracker of a game, both teams did it very hard last year as younger blokes in the 13s 2013 competition, losing many of games by heavy defeats, but as the old saying goes “What doesn’t break you can only make you stronger”. Which seems to be the case, as the Panthers and the Knights have been the form teams throughout a long season in the 13s grade. This game would be very hard to pick as it will come down to whichever team wants it on the day and plays best.
