Northern Swords Season to Forget

It would sound bizarre to say that this was an improved performance from the Northern Swords with a scoreline of 80 – 10, however, for 40 minutes of the game, the Swords were competitive against the Akarana Falcons. In the first forty minutes the Swords showed resilience and pride in their defence line, looked dangerous on attack and looked like a football team capable of competing at a National Level. They went into half-time trailing by 22 – 10, with tries to hard working loose forward, Kelsin Harding and skipper Joel Freeman.

Pirtek NZRL National Premiership – Swords put out an SOS to Northland League Public

The Northern Swords are calling out to all of Northland League public to get in behind the Swords to help them rescue their season this weekend at Toll Stadium after they were put to the sword by the Central Vipers in Whanganui on Sunday. The Central Vipers continued their turnaround season in the Pirtek NZRL National Premiership, with a resounding 74-16 win over Northern Swords. After travelling through the 2013 competition without a win, the Hawke’s Bay/Taranaki/Manawatu/Whanganui combination have now registered two wins this year, having accounted for Wellington two weeks ago.

Swords Premiers solid preparation for Mid Central

In the Swords Bye week they had a good work out against the John Ackland coached, Auckland U20s Representative Team, on a wet sodden Bluegoose, in Whangarei on Saturday the 6th of September. John Ackland, who is now the Auckland CEO is more known as the first Warriors Coach to win an Australian League Championship, when he coached the Elijah Taylor Captained Champion U20s title in 2010.

Swords Show some promise as they were stung by Stingrays

The inexperienced and youthful Swords were stung by a powerful Stingray barb yesterday at a cold, wet, Toll Stadium as they were defeated 46 – 6 by Counties Manukau Stingrays. The South Auckland boys were a class above the Northern Swords. The scoreline in fairness, showed a larger margin than the game reflected. In years gone by the Swords defence line would have parted like the red sea. However, yesterday it stood strong. Defensively, the Swords dug in and defended well as a team. Swords second row Jordan Hool put a number of bone clanging hits on the Stingrays that was worth the admission ticket.
