Northern Swords – 17s – Train On Squad

The below players have been selected as the 17s Train On Squad. POD training is compulsory attendance. Information letters will be posted from 17s Manager later this week.

POD training locations: Lindvart Park, Kaitaia and Bluegoose. POD training days: Starting Monday 30th June and every Monday thereafter. POD training times: 6:00pm start. Bring: Mouthguards, boots and waterbottles

Rugby League Northland are pleased to announce Julia Pitman as Swords Manager of the Year, Benson Selwyn as Swords Coach of the Year and Willy Dickson as Swords Trainer of the Year.

The 17s had a history making year, winning four of their six games to finish third in the NZRL 17s National Championship.

So Close But Yet So Far

With both teams needing to win to reach the final, the Akarana team, were too classy for their Northern counterparts, to earn themselves a place in next Monday’s finals against the Counties Manukau Stingrays. Had the Swords won they would have been the first team outside of Auckland to have made the National final – but it wasn’t to be.

A Lesson In Rugby League

Both Swords teams – the 17s and Premiers came crashing back down to earth after last week’s history making weekend. The 17s, who were sitting on Top of the Table got a lesson in how to play league by a rampant Counties Manukau Stingrays team. The Stingrays, who were missing five of their top players to the NZRL 18s team outclassed a helpless looking Swords team.

Sunday 29th September – Northern Swords v Counties Manukau Stingrays – played at Massey Park, Papakura – 17s KO at 1:00pm and the Premiers – KO at 2:30pm.

Northern Swords 17s Remain Top of Table

The Swords 17s, 44 – 28 win over the Central Vipers, see the Swords remain on top of the table after four rounds with three wins and a BYE. The Swords were dominant on attack throughout the match. On the back of a strong forward pack, the outside backs were superb, with the entire back line, with exception of playmaker Daniel Fulop, scoring tries.
