At the Bluegoose on Sunday, the Jennian Homes Junior Rugby League season kicked off in style.  With over 8 teams in every 7s, 9s, 11s and 13s grade momentum is surely picking up for Junior Rugby League in the North.  Joe Rau, RLN Development Officer said that in all his years involved in Rugby League he has never seen anything like it.  “It was packed, the car parks were full and everyone was buzzing as the kids really enjoyed the league.  For a first time for the year it was awesome.”We are expecting more teams to enter as the weeks progress.  There were also four 15s and 18s pre-season games as well.  With the NorthTec Adam Blair Trophy still running, some clubs have elected to wait until after the holidays to commence age grade football.   At this stage RLN can confirm 6 teams in the 18s and 8 in the 15s.

In the Mid to Far North the Mini Mod Cluster kicked off with a muster day at Northland College with teams from Otaua/Tautorians, Moerewa, Hokianga and Whanau.  Although not on the scale of the Bluegoose, RLN expects more teams to enter in the coming the weeks.  “It was a good start and the kids had a blast and are excited about the coming season,” RLN Development officer Paparangi Pririni said.
